Hi,
I'm new to these forums although I always lurk!
I'm in a spot of bother debt wise, payday loans and old credit card debt has been building up for a while. I am tackling it, and am following a very strict budget at the moment.
So last Saturday, when I had 50 pounds go into my account (a refund from something that I sent back) I was a little shocked to wake up and find two lots of 25 pounds have come out.
I called the bank straight away, only to be told they couldn't tell me who the debitor was.
Eventually found out on Monday that it was Cash Finance Direct. Only, I took that loan out in January, and since then have had TWO new bank cards. Confusion.
Apparently, if you apply through a broker for a loan, and they submit your details to CFO, that gives them permission to use your card to obtain money that you owe them? Can someone please confirm if this is in fact, legal?
I emailed CFO after finding out they had changed their name and asked to set up a payment plan. I received no response. So I came on here and got the email address of james keeble, whom I also emailed. No response. I assumed they didn't want any money from me, especially when I called the number on the email that they originally sent me and it was disconnected.
So I have sent a number of emails asking for my money back and telling them that they had taken the last money that I had to live on until I received a tax credit payment later this week.
After 4 or 5 emails were they insisted that they were in the right, I threatened to call the police. I then received two emails (responding to one email that I sent) from different people, one saying I wasn't getting a refund and to naff off, basically, and the other saying they would be happy to refund half the money.
I haven't received the refund (this was on Friday) even after sending 3 emails on Friday afternoon.
They emailed me this morning saying that I would get the refund by 4pm, so I'll have to see.
I'm posting this here to make other people aware that submitting your details to brokers can cause unauthorised payments with companies like CFO. But also I have a few questions:
1. Was I right in thinking the money they took was not rightfully theirs?
2. Are a company allowed to change their name without informing their customers?
I know CFO have had a lot of flak over here and I do realise this is all my own fault and I owe them the money. But my repeated attempts to contact them failed. I have no intention of trying to hide from my debt, but I feel this whole situation is extremely unfair. Maybe I am wrong?
