At least a dozen people were injured in a drive-by shooting in northwest Washington, D.C., early Monday.
Authorities said that around 2 a.m., someone in an older blue BMW opened fire on a crowd of people outside an apartment building in the 1200 block of N. Capitol Street.
Three women and four men are being treated for gunshot wounds at area hospitals, D.C. Police Chief Cathy Lanier has confirmed.
Five other people were also injured, but police have not yet commented on whether those victims were injured by gunshots, flying glass from a shattered bus shelter, or something else.
Of the confirmed shooting victims, the most serious injury was in a man who was shot in the back. All 12 are expected to survive, reported News4?s Megan McGrath.
Police were laying down evidence markers to highlight where bullets or fragments landed in a crime scene that stretches nearly a block. McGrath reported that at least 32 markers have been placed on the street.
