5 Tips for Finding a Personal Injury Attorney | Make The Lists

If you have suffered an injury due to the negligence of a person , business or some other entity, you may be entitled to financial compensation. This will require the services of a lawyer, and in the United States, lack of these particular professionals is certainly is not a problem. Rather, your issue will be the potentially daunting task of picking from such a large selection. Like any other profession, some are better than others or some are better equipped to meet your needs. Here are some tips for finding a personal injury attorney.

Look Beyond Clever Advertising

Lawyers are like any other paid professional?they perform services for a fee and to stay in business, they need to secure paying clients. There is nothing wrong with advertising. But, it is important to look beyond ads when it comes to personal injury attorneys?an area of law where advertising is heavily employed.? While many of the best lawyers and firms rely on referrals for business and do not need to market their services, a lawyer that advertises is not necessarily a bad one. Regardless, you need to investigate further beyond some enticing ad that promises big bucks for your claim.

Get Referrals from People You Trust

One of the best ways to find what we are looking for is asking people who may know where we can find it. Looking for legal representation is no exception. Ask people in your life who have worked with lawyers before for referrals; even if their case had nothing to do with personal injury, they may be able to refer you to a lawyer who can offer some names for personal injury attorneys. It is important, however, to still make your own decision and not pick someone just because they were referred to you. You need to have a good rapport with your attorney as well as generally feel good about your choice overall to ensure the most successful outcome.

Use Referral Services with Care

Legal referral services vary as far as their requirements for getting on their list. Some have very stringent criteria regarding experience and qualifications, while others may simply list any lawyer that has liability insurance and is in good standing with the state bar association?while this last thing is certainly important, it really does not speak much to their skill. Other services may simply include any lawyer that pays a fee to be included; any preferred status may simply result from the lawyer having paid for that privilege, not their competency. While caution with referral services is important regardless of the type of attorney you seek, it is especially important with personal injury practitioners.

Check Martindale-Hubbell

Martindale-Hubbell is an extensive listing of firms and individual lawyers in the United States and Canada. There is extensive information about their experience and the ratings are peer-reviewed, meaning they have been evaluated by other law professionals. You will find information on over 1 million firms and individual attorneys. This trusted source of information is a must when looking for an attorney.

Look for Lawyers Experienced in Your Type of Case

Within each specialty of law, there are countless subspecialities if you will. Personal injury law encompasses all sorts of cases, ranging from car accidents to worker?s compensation. Your best chances for getting the outcome you want will depend heavily on your lawyer?s experience with your type of case. The more your lawyer has personally handled similar cases, the better prepared they are to build your case.? You want to find out how much of their practice is devoted to personal injury and your types of cases in particular. If the attorney primarily represents defendants in personal injury cases, his mode of thinking about these cases may not be beneficial for you?he may knowingly or unknowingly not fight as hard for you claim.

  1. That's true that it's a good idea to do research beyond just the different ads that law firms put out. I'd prefer to make sure that they had good reviews from people that aren't paid to spread the news about them. That just makes sense to me. The biggest question on my mind right now is if I need a lawyer for my case. It could have been worse, but it isn't the best either. http://www.kyattys.com/services
